My vision is to lead a life of authenticity and purpose, deeply rooted in the wisdom of my ancestors and the sacred connection to the land. I strive to create a world where every individual feels safe, supported, and valued for who they are. Through my work, relationships, and daily actions, I seek to inspire and guide others on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. By honoring my heritage and the teachings of my grandmother, I embrace the beauty of being different and the strength that comes from being grounded in nature. I am committed to cultivating spaces of healing, growth, and connection, where resilience, compassion, and joy flourish. Together, let us build a community where every being thrives in harmony and abundance, realizing their true potential and the importance they hold in this world.
My grandmother was a medicine woman from her tribe and my grandfather was from his and they brought our tribes together. My family has lived on the same parcel of land for more than 130 years.
My Uncle Leo is the Elder in our family and Medicine Man and has passed down many of our family traditions and teachings.
My Mom and all my relatives went to the Lebret Residential school which ran from 1884-1998 in the area. I heard stories from my family on the treatment and starvation that happened to all of them.
It wasn’t until after my mom’s death that I heard the truth of what happened to her and why my mom was so ashamed to be Cree and she moved to Alberta to raise her family so her children would never feel starvation or fear. Or to be ashamed of being Cree.
I had to start from the beginning of my life journey to today so you would understand what it takes for me to stand up here to say what my mom couldn’t say or teach. This is dedicated to all the indigenous people that left us without ever speaking their truths.
I spent many summers, long weekends, winter holidays, spring breaks and any other time I could continue to spend time with my grandparents. Many of my gifts, teachings and cooking come from my grandmother Vera Desnomie and she was my biggest influence in my childhood and my life.
She taught me truth, independence, resilience, connection to nature and all that Mother Earth has for us. I harvested under the full moon. I thought everyone did this. We planted under the new moon, and I thought everyone did this. It was so natural and in connection with Mother Earth that I just loved it. Being barefoot, outside picking vegetables and indigenous medicines was so great and full of joy for me, as well as all the stories my grandmother told her about her life. This is where I learn to trust the moon cycles to guide my life and I still use many practices in my present life.
I studied under many scholars, teachers, Elders, Indigenous people from all nations, psychic mediums, Estheticians, Doctors, Reiki Masters, Shamanic practitioners, and many other life teachers. I continue my quest for knowledge and to feel like I belonged somewhere that understood me and did not think I was crazy for my gifts.
You are connected to the people you are supposed to, and I met Geoff from Rig Hand Distillery through his sister Jamie about 6 years ago. Geoff was looking for someone to smudge the place and maybe to
help coordinate the erection of a 30-foot tipi. I was doing wellness retreats and workshops and smudging homes and businesses for people. After Geoff and I talked, he asked me to run programs and education for their facility.
My husband and two sons with the help of about 3 other men, the tipi was built. I wanted to bring education of the moon cycles and the sacred medicines that native people have been using for generations. My role as a indigenous woman to bring clean water to my family, and to all Canadian people. This is my business long term goal.
I had the great honour of being interviewed in May 2023 with Travel Alberta did they made a video with me and interview. This was released on International Day of the World’s Indigenous People. It was a honour for me and from that video I was asked to join the Firecircle Program which is to ignite tourism entrepreneurs across Canada. This helps empower me with knowledge and spark my innovative spirit. This program helps teach me the inner workings of running a sustainable Indigenous tourism business. How to build a business plan for my business, how to build programs and products that are authentic to my beliefs and goals. Building a brand and sticking to it. When I am done this program, my business plans will help to assist in obtaining financing and grants opportunities to operate my dream business. I realized that I could build a great business doing what I love doing the most. I am near completion of the program (On step 5 of the program) but still lots of work to finish on the business plans that I have.
On February 21, 2024 the honourable Rick Wilson, Minister of Indigenous Relations come to one of my moon events where I presented him with his very own Elk drum. We had a celebration for all the new drums. It was an evening I will never forget.
